Rychen began running in 2009 when he and his ultra-competitive extended family ran a 2.6 mile “mini-marathon” held annually during their hometown 4th of July celebration. He completed his first marathon a year later in 2010 and to-date has completed 19 marathons, four 50-mile ultra-marathons, one 50k, three half-Ironman triathlons and dozens of other races. He is the co-founder/co- owner of SaturdayMarathons.com (and accompanying Facebook site), the largest online calendar of Saturday marathons held in the United States. When he’s not running he is working in his garden, jumping on the trampoline with his four kids, enjoying time with his wife or meeting the demands of his two cats. He also actively serves in his local church. The Mesa-Phx Marathon is one of his favorites, as it allows him to escape the rainy, wet winters of the Pacific Northwest and return to the Valley of the Sun to run and to visit friends made while serving in the area as a missionary for his church.
